Industrial
Concrete Products Bhd (ICP) will invest about RM20 million to
build four ready mixed concrete batching plants in India in
its efforts to further strengthen its overseas
presence.
It currently has
a batching plant each in Hyderabad and Bangalore.
Its chief
executive officer and managing director Mah Teck Onn said two
of the new batching plants are being built in Hyderabad and
Bangalore, which would be operational in three months’ time,
while the other two would be set up in Chennai and Mumbai
later.
Speaking to
reporters after its AGM in Petaling Jaya on Aug 15, Mah said
it had also set up a marketing team in India in June to
promote its pre-tensioned spun concrete piles (PSC
piles).
He said PSC
piles, which contribute 75% to its revenue, are new in the
construction sector in India, and the company would consider
setting up a PSC piles manufacturing plant in Chennai if the
sales reach 6,000 tonnes a month.
On its local
operations, Mah said ICP would invest RM25 million to open a
new PSC piles plant in Kapar, which is expected to come
onstream by mid-2007, for the local and overseas
markets.
“We are enjoying
a record high order book position at the moment. It is
tremendous and we are so busy," he said.
He said its PSC
piles are widely accepted in the overseas market with exports
rising from 1% of its total tonnage of production in FY04 to
7% and 16% in FY05 and FY06, respectively.
“For the new
financial year, we are looking at 20%,” he said. ICP has 10
PSC piles manufacturing plants in Malaysia, and one in China,
with annual production of 1.2 million tonnes and 180,000
tonnes, respectively.
Mah added that
the company, with a 70% share in the local PSC piles, is
prepared to tap the benefits from the Ninth Malaysia Plan,
where more schools, roads and bridges would be
constructed.
“We hope to
achieve 15% to 20% growth in our revenue,” he said.
